Mystery Tuesday Visitors

One of the neatest things about running a website/blog is all the interesting information you can extract from your visitors. Whether it’s how many people are visiting your website, what search terms they used to find your site, or who’s linking back, Google Analytics let’s you track this all easily.

I’ve posted above a snapshot of the visitors to this site from August 2011 to October 2011. To my surprise, there’s a saw-tooth pattern to the visits to this page. Looking back over the last year, this trend has been the same. So I just have one question I would like to ask and hopefully my readers can help me understand it.

Why are there more blog visitors on Tuesday than on any other day?

If I think about it, I am probably one of your mysterious Tuesday visitors. Of course, that has changed now that I get your blog updates emailed to me. But before, Tuesday is definitely the day when I need the most inspiration to carry on through the week. With homework and projects piling up, I go on your site to remind myself what I am working toward. Tuesday is still so far from the weekend, but it feels like I’ve been doing work for 4 days already. I think that’s why there are more readers on Tuesday- at least that’s why I used to read on Tuesday.
    🙂

Strange- my blog traffic peaks about equally between Monday and Tuesday. I have no idea why either.

Sidenote: when I first glanced at this post I thought I was looking at an EKG for a half second. Guess which second year course I’m in right now!

That’s so interesting. I’ve never actually paid much attention to the day on which I read the blogs I’m following, including yours. Maybe I should.

I find most bloggers don’t post over the weekend, so I usually check the blogs I read on Monday or Tuesday as I assume they will have posted something after the weekend has passed.

Thanks for the input, I guess Tuesday is the big hump day. We’ll see tomorrow, visitor trends are peaking again!

Personally I think it has to do with general social behavior of our society. Not to be morbid, but the same trend is evident when patients receiving cancer treatment where I volunteer. For some reason Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest days where as Fridays and Mondays are dead. I think that in a blog’s case, they serve as a distraction from life. Students start the school week on a Monday so it makes sense that most people will view a blog early in the week and will not visit it again until the following week.

That’s an interested theory Abstract, never really thought that Tuesdays and Thursday are viewed as distraction days. I find myself busiest on those days actually. I’ll see if Google Analytics can give me a definitive answer in the future

I would wager that this might be, in some way, tied to the fact that grand rounds run on Tuesdays… I came to your blog via GR and am guessing so do a lot of other people.

Meanwhile, let me register my extreme envy at the fact that you get, on an average, about 400 page views everyday! :-X

Hi Pranab, I would bet that it’s not the fact that Grand Rounds are on Tuesday, unless of course people are looking through old grand round archives. I’ve noticed this fluctuation for more than a year now and can’t really make any sense of it. Then again, I haven’t really peered through the analytics and statistics of each Tuesday.

Awesome blog, nice to see bloggers from around the world.

Could this be because of the Web Crawlers?

I am a little late to this party but I too noticed my traffic peaking nearly every Tuesday for a year… In fact, I found this blog by searching ” why more site visitors tuesday” LOL
    Cheers!
