I had to look up semiotics, and am not familiar with that term at all. In all things, it's good to start off with the big picture and concepts and then fill in the individual branches afterwards. My Calculus teacher also quoted "It takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in a field" too, just to try to motivate us. It's nice to see where this fact came from.
