"In a perfect world, I would remember everything I read, file it away in the right folder in my brain and have the ability to recall it whenever I wanted." .... Ever tried Evernote? It does seem like your ideal system. Except brain=evernote, which is easily accessible/searchable on computers/tablets/phones, and "remember everything I read" involves doing that brief summary you talked about and but just inputting it into Evernote. A big organized pile of everything you've ever seen, easily searchable and modifiable. Sounds perfect eh?

I'm just trying to implement it. I think it will be good, I just have to get used to using it. New systems are always tough to get going. But I do really feel like it will be a good long term solution for lifelong learning and managing this never-ending vat of information that is Medicine.

Great post! Do you feel like you could have created a better "system" for learning relevant clinical information during your classroom years? It seems like the emphasis on fine details and trivia-like knowledge can be a barrier towards information that will actually prove useful.
